March 3, 2020 – Tornado

In the early morning of Tuesday, March 3, 2020, Maplecrest was one of several Middle Tennessee neighborhoods struck by a powerful tornado.  While our Maplecrest community was fortunate that no one was killed or seriously injured, many of our neighbors suffered extensive damage to their homes, carports, garages, outbuildings, vehicles and other property.  Power and service lines were destroyed all over the neighborhood, and we mourn the loss of hundreds of beautiful, mature trees that once graced our post-World War II community.  The Nashville Fire Department responded immediately to help neighbors trapped inside their homes by debris, and MNPD patrolled our community for days to keep us safe.

Within hours of the tornado, neighbors helped neighbors.  Scores of volunteers from near and far mobilized to help our Maplecrest community begin the recovery.  They cut and moved downed trees, cleaned up storm debris, brought us food, drinks, and household goods, and lifted up our spirits during a challenging time.  Mayor John Cooper and our Council Member Jeff Syracuse came to our neighborhood to pledge governmental support and assistance.  Nashville Electric Service linemen and contractors from out-of-state worked tirelessly to restore our power.  All of us in Maplecrest are forever grateful to the volunteers, public servants and businesses that worked so hard to bring some normalcy back into our lives, even though we will experience the effects of this disaster for some time to come.  We have no doubt that our Maplecrest community is stronger today than it was before the tornado struck.
